Southern Clay Products, Inc. offers an array of specialty additives for both thermoset composites and thermoplastic composites. Specifically, our Garamite® additives are highly beneficial to unsaturated polyester resin, epoxy and vinyl ester systems. Cloisite® additives are incorporated into thermoplastic materials to improve the physical and chemical properties of the composite.
Through the use of patented manufacturing technologies our Garamite® additives offer the highest performance/viscosity ratio of any thermoset rheological additive on the market. Characterized by high efficiency and ease of incorporation, Garamite® additives can be used to replace numerous thixotropes during formulation. Garamite® additives are known for low viscosity, better drainage control, excellent wetting of substrates and glass along with overall superior application properties. In unsaturated polyester resins, Garamite® additives will heighten performance and reduce VOC emissions with the replacement of fumed silica and organoclays which require more styrene in formulations. In epoxies and vinyl esters, formulators will find heightened efficiency, productivity and dispersion rates. Additionally, a decrease in raw material storage space and dusting can be experienced with Garamite® additives compared to fumed silica due to a higher product bulk density.
In thermoplastic composites, Southern Clay Products, Inc. offers Cloisite® additives, a line of super-charged nanoparticle reinforcers. Cloisite® additives have proven themselves as extremely beneficial in most, if not all classes of thermoplastics. By incorporating Cloisite® additives during the extrusion phase of production of thermoplastic materials, formulators can be assured of increased modulus and tensile, dimensional stability, and HDT while lowering bulk density. Major improvements in barrier properties along with improved flame retardation in thermoplastics are also achieved through incorporation of Cloisite® additives.
