For the solvent-based coatings industry, Southern Clay Products, Inc. offers a complete portfolio of products for virtually every application. Our Claytone® and Tixogel® organoclays are available in a traditional form which requires a “pregel” step, but also in an activator-free form for ease of incorporation without activating agents or excessive milling. Southern Clay Products, Inc. offers a large number of organoclay additive choices which will allow optimization of use, while at the same time allowing for manufacturing flexibility.
Southern Clay Products, Inc. also offers castor-based thixotrope additives. Our castor-based additives are far more thixotropic than our organoclay additives, and can provide complimentary rheology when they are used in combination. Coatings formulated with our Rheocin® and Advitrol® castor-based additives present many advantages that are most visible in the coating application properties. Castor-based additives offer a balance between sag and leveling and are effective in pigment suspension.
For the prevention of settling in industrial coatings, Southern Clay Products, Inc. offers Y-Type Anti-Settling Agents. Y-type additives boost pigment suspension without increasing the application viscosity of the coating. Available as an organic paste or in a pour-able form, our Y-type additives affect the viscosity of the coating in the very low shear region where settling, sag, and leveling properties are controlled.

Our Claytone® and Tixogel® organoclay additives are also crucial to formulating ink, especially those used in high speed printing. The use of these organoclay additives contributes to uniform consistency and control. Since organoclay thickened inks do not exhibit a high elastic component of viscosity, these inks typically exhibit low misting on the press.
As with the organoclay additives for coating applications, Southern Clay Products, Inc. manufactures both traditional “pregel” and activator-free Claytone® and Tixogel® additives for flexibility in the ink manufacturing process. Our additives are currently used in the following types of ink:
